We have a17-by0053cl (3TT03UA#ABA) HP laptop that is 7 months out of factory warrany. Never had ANY problem with the computer until the last few days. I have always kept it updated with the latest Windows 10 home updates After finishing the last windows update, while powering it down, it started automatically downloading an update to the BIOS ?? Having not seeing this previously, I thought possibly a virus was being installed? I continued with powering down. There was NO prior notification from HP that there was anything wrong with the BIOS, and as I said, never a previous problem with operation. However now, the computer will not boot at all.. It will power on for a few seconds with a black screen, that is unresponsive to hitting the escape key to enter the setup screen, necessary to recover the likely now corrupt bios data. The power led comes on but the hard drive led does not light. I have downloaded both USB utilities,, However, it seems all depend on getting into the setup menu via the escape key in order to work? I have tried all the key combinations (escape, F10, Windows +B, Windows +V)
Any help from the community would be appreciated. We are both in our seventies and use the computer for ordering our groceries online and trying to avoid Covid 19.
Thanks HP for taking over our computer and creating a $600 brick!!

@jfb6 Here's what you need to do, to identify the issue and resolve it accordingly:
- check if it works fine on an alternate/external monitor.
- If it works fine on an alternate screen, please Perform a hard reset, Attempt a BIOS recovery and then, Run the System Diagnostics tests.

Thanks Riddle for trying to help. No video on external monitor. The power light stays on for a few seconds, no hard disk light. Function keys seem to work, as I can use F4 to light the keyboard. Escape key, Win+B, Win+V, and no other combination of keys that depend on entering setup or reading usb will work? Latest bios repair on usb thumb drive, but will not read the drive? No beep codes or sounds. Why does the power shut off immediately?Where is the bios stored? I need the motherboard layout schematic, but not available on HP site or manual? I am a pretty intelligent guy for 76, but we need help for this problem that to date and many hours of time seems unsolvable! It still a $600 brick that the automatic bios download from HP created! But a sincere thanks for trying to help. If anyone can help, email a number to call and I will gladly call.
Thanks
