Once again, HP has bricked a laptop.  A BIOS update was running, no interruption, then it said it failed.  It then failed to recover.  It then failed to recover the BIOS from HP's BIOS loaded on to a USB stick - saying it was unable to read the signature file (which was there).  MANY attempts/permutations were tried, many hours of my life I won't be getting back.
Long and painful story short, does anyone have a BIOS dump for:

BID 08B6D

17N_AMD_FP6_BARCELO

HP 17-cp3000na

Thanks in advance, Ian.

Hi  @senoj_nai,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I completely understand how  that must feel  spending hours trying to recover your system. Thank you for sharing the details so clearly; it really helps us understand what you’ve already tried.

Here are a few specific steps worth trying:

  1. BIOS recovery key combo: Pressing Windows key + B (or sometimes V) while holding down the power button can trigger the built‑in BIOS recovery tool.
  2. Clear CMOS: If possible, disconnect the battery and AC adapter, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. This can sometimes reset the embedded controller and allow recovery.
  3. HP Hardware Diagnostics: If the system powers on but doesn’t boot, try running diagnostics from a USB stick to confirm whether the issue is strictly BIOS‑related or hardware‑linked.
  4. Service support: If the BIOS signature error persists, the system board may need a reflashing the BIOS at the service level.

I know you’ve already tried the USB recovery route, but sometimes re‑downloading the BIOS update package directly from the HP support page -  https://support.hp.com/  for your exact product number (rather than the generic model) can make a difference.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for reaching out.  I got a BIOS dump but the laptop won't power on.  I removed the bios from the board and again no power up.  No charging lights, no lights.  I cleared cmos - no change.  I tested the pins of the bios and it is getting 1.8v.  I tested the EC chip and it is receiving 3.3v and receives the power-on request and it ack's it.  The pin to actually startes up the power sequence always stays low.  My conclusion is that the code in the EC chip is corrupt.  I searched for EC/BIOS pairs for sale but found none.
HP's repair bill is almost the cost of the same laptop (second hand) so I now consider it beyond economical repair.  I hope this helps someone.

Hi @senoj_nai,

Thanks for your response. I understand how it must be when the device shows no signs of powering on despite your efforts.

Since the embedded controller (EC) firmware and BIOS are critical to the startup sequence, and given your conclusion that the EC code may be corrupted, the best next step is to have the system examined by an authorized HP service center. They have the specialized tools and firmware access required to diagnose the issue .

To ensure your device receives the appropriate care, we recommend visiting an authorized HP service center. Our certified technicians can provide a thorough diagnosis and offer the best solutions to address the issue.

Thanks for the advice.  I did ping support and they came back with a repair bill of over £400 which I consider beyond economical repair.  A part of me also thinks that I used to have a perfectly working laptop - I then ran some HP update software that applied some HP BIOS code and this broke it.  Nothing's for free in this world but it would have been nice if maybe a token charge of £100 was offered.   I'm afraid I won't be buying HP again.
