Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My HP 840 G1 notebook just crashed in the morning. When i turn on the power button the screen remains blank and the caps lock and scroll lock led blinks 3 times simultaneously . After 3-4 times of blinking pattern the cpu fan starts running at full speed.

Things i’ve tried:

1. Hard reset

2. Removing and reinstalling the ram module

3. installing a spare ram i had (Not 100% sure if works).

What could be the reason for this ? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi
Depending on the age of the PC and the BIOS vendor...
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07107

The most likely is...  LED blinks 3 times

Memory  --  RAM Module failure.

1 Reseat the memory. NB:- See the Services Media Library for steps for your PC.

2 Check each individual memory module and swap slots.

3 Replace the memory modules causing three blinks or if the blinks follow the slots.

4 Replace the Main-Board.

BUT the BIOS is also a vague possibility.

3  --  MEMORY READ OR WRITE FAILURE

3  --  INSERT NEXT MEDIA VOLUME

Therefore....Hopefully one of these documents will cover (and solve) your problem...
