Hi:

Enter any password 3 times and the PC should generate an 8 digit system disabled (halt) code.

Write down the code and enter it in the block at the link below, and it will generate an unlock passcode.

https://bios-pw.org/

Restart the PC and enter the unlock passcode the website generated.

Removed "power-on" and bios admin pass's successfully. Reset bios to factory defaults. Changed boot order to usb (for a properly created usb-dvd boot-tool....tried on other machine/works) But hp15 says the media failed when I try to boot from it. Restore console won't complete (nor will any windows recovery options) saying it needs admin to ok it, followed by THERE IS NO ADMIN PERSON ON THIS MACHINE...or something like that. I want to wipe and do clean install of  7 ultimate.

Original problem was (and still is)windows boot failure pop-up on start up. Don't know existing OS...recovery console looks like 10. Machine created last year. Could be 8?

any thoughts?

Hi:

Are you sure your notebook is a HP 15-1305dx?

I'm thinking that the 1 in 1305 is small letter 'f', and that you have this model...

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-f300-Notebook-PC-series/8499333/model/8788166?sku=N5Y24UA

Couple of things when you are installing W7 from a flash drive...

1. You have to go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot.  On some models, enabling legacy mode automatically disables secure boot.   W7 is not compatible with secure boot.

2. You have to boot the W7 installation media from the notebook's USB 2 port.  It won't work from the USB3 port.

Check the user guide on the above support page for the location of the notebook's USB2 port if you don't know which one it is.

Those would be the only suggestions I can offer regarding your current dilemma.

Dude you are a freakin' genius. Thanks again for not only helping me solve my problems, but exponentially increasing my learning curve!  🙂  So many other questions have been answered along the way. I'm usually kind of the go-to almost-geek-guy amongst my fam/friends, but have a lot of knowledge gaps. Now I have less!

also, when I enabled legacy boot it automatically disabled secure boot, and recognized my "Cruzer Glide" usb device, and put it in the boot options list. Selected. Hit Enter. BAM! Loading OS!

I downloaded pdf for future reference.

This has been a great day!!!!

hp-15-more thank yous!

You're very welcome, Chris.

You'll be probably back, because you will find that there are no W7 drivers listed on the support page for that notebook.

So lemme get you started and if you run into any issues, we can address them later...

1st install the AMD chipset drivers and restart the PC.  You want the first driver listed on the webpage.

Those will install the smbus and USB3 controllers.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

Graphics:  1st driver on the list.  Install and restart the PC.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/apu?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

Audio:  Accept the agreement.  Download and install the 2nd driver on the list.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT... Definition Audio Codecs

Ethernet:  Download, unzip and run the setup application from the 2nd file at the link below.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTy...

Card reader:  Download, unzip and run the setup application from the 1nd file at the link below.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT...

Wireless:

This package contains the driver installation package for the Realtek RTL8723BE/RTL8188EE wireless LAN Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

Touchpad:

This package provides the driver that enables the Synaptics TouchPad in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The driver enables general touchpad functionality (for example double-tap and scroll) and provides a user interface.
