HP Chromebook 14a-na0000 (8NN64AV)

I was watching a movie on my HP Google Chromebook when the screen started glitching. The screen froze so I held down the powder button to retarted it. After it turned back on it was still glitching so I restarted it again, except this time when it turned on the screen was blacked out. I knew it was on because my computer makes a little sound when it turns on. I also plugged it in and when I plug my computer in it also makes a little sound. I tried the refresh and power button, I tried the escape button. I literally tried all the options to get it to work and nothing helped. The computer is on but it is not lighting up.

Hi @abzeener,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your Chromebook might have encountered a display or hardware-related issue. Since you've tried the refresh + power button reset and escape options without success,

here are a few additional steps that may help:

1. Hard Reset

  • Press and hold Power + Refresh for about 10 seconds. Release both, and then try turning the Chromebook on normally.

2. Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery (if possible)

  • For a more thorough reset, try disconnecting the battery if you feel comfortable opening the back panel. This can sometimes resolve power and display issues that persist despite a hard reset.
  • After disconnecting the battery, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to discharge any residual power before reconnecting it and powering the device back on.

3. Try External Display

  • Connect your Chromebook to an external monitor via HDMI or USB-C. If the display appears on the external monitor, the issue might be with your Chromebook's screen.

4. Powerwash (Factory Reset) with Recovery USB

  • If you’re still having trouble and the external display doesn’t work, creating a Chromebook recovery USB and performing a factory reset may help.
  • To do this, you’ll need access to another computer to create a recovery drive using Google’s Chromebook Recovery Utility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
