Pavilion DV7
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Laptop orignally ran on Vista.  started having problems with boot up.  Sometimes it would boot up.  Sometimes it sounded as thhough it was looking foor a CD (CD drive empty).   CapLock AND NumLock LED blink during atempted boot and even continue after boot up and everthing seems to operate OK.

Upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit to see if it was a Vista issue.

Problem still exists.

The LEDs flash one time and then again after about 3 seconds.

Hi,

Please try a hard reset and see if it works.

1. Power off your laptop
2. Remove the a/c adapter, battery and everything that is attached to your laptop.
3. Hold the 'POWER 'button down on your laptop for about 10 seconds.
4. Plug in the a/c power supply (without battery) and power on.

Regards.

It Worked. amazing how something so simple will sometimes fix a headache.  Did the Hard Reset and restarted it several times without the battery.  The reinstalled the battery adn repeated the shutdown and startup several times.  NO more blinking CapLock or NumLock LEDs!

Thanks

The issue is BACK!

After woorking correctly for a day.  When I tried to start it up ths morning.  The issue of the blinking CapsLock and NumLock LEDs is back.

Tried the Hard reset again.  No help this time.  Computer woulld not boot up.

After several attempts some with no battery and some with the battery it would not boot, just sat there with a "blink, wait about 3 seconds and another blink, in between the blinks it would sound like it was trying access the CD drive.

Finally I plugged in a bootable USB flash drive.  The computer booted up with no blinking LEDs????

The HP site the describes the blinking LED codes indicates the a single blink is related to the CPU, any suggestions??
