Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

So, for quite a few months now, when I am playing Dota 2 or watching youtube videos, my HP ENVY 15 will suddenly lag and a screeching noise will come through my headphones. It essentially freezes up and I have trouble getting the mouse and keyboard to respond as well. After about a minute of screeching and intense lag, it slowly starts working again.

I searched the internet and found this archived thread about an ASUS laptop that was experiencing the same problem as mine.  http://rog.asus.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-14960.html?s=d5a890ce396bc7d95eb5990f9123650a

In that thread, they seemed to think the network drivers or Mcafee was causing the problem. I dont' have Mcafee, and I updated my Realtek LAN drivers, and the problem has not gone away. In that thread, someone posted a youtube video showing the lag, and it is exactly the same thing that is happening to me:

At 1:35 and 2:10, this is the exact awful sound I'm hearing, accompanied by insane stuttering on my computer.

My product number is C8P47AV.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi @GeneralSu ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 Notebook and  sudden screeching audio and graphics lag. Here is a link to computer locks up or freezes that may help.

Any Virus protection program can cause this same issue. Try temporarily disabling it to see if this helps.

You could try a Refresh with Windows 8. Please read all the documentation before starting. This would fix your sound and lagging.

Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.

Hope this helps please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi I have the same problem on my HP ENVY m7 Notebook PC, I made a REFRESH and that didn't work.  I feel very annoyed by this. I can't play videogames or even watch youtube videos because of the lagging.
