Hello,
I have an HP Envy that is about 2 years old. The screen was replaced about six months ago because it was dropped on a corner of the screen. Skipping ahead to about a month ago, the laptop's battery ran dead so it was plugged in to recharge. Once it was recharged, it refused to boot or show any signs of life other than the little light that indicates the charge level on the side of the computer. It was taken to college IT and the tech said that there was a bad connection on the motherboard but wasn't sure where or which connection it was. When tinkering with it about a week ago, it randomly booted up, whereupon I ran a full system diagnostic and found nothing. I was able to restart, shutdown, and put the computer to sleep without any problems. I absentmindedly shut the lid on it that night and when I opened it a little while later, it was a brick again. I have to assume the computer thinks it's in tablet mode, so the power button is disabled. Any tips on how to fix this? I've tried pretty much everything possible without replacing hardware. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Greeffin,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing a complex issue, potentially involving hardware and software aspects. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially fix your HP Envy x360:
Hard Reset:
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to perform a hard reset.
- Plug the power adapter back in and try to power on the laptop.
Check Power Supply:
- Ensure that the power adapter is functioning correctly. Try using a different compatible charger if possible.
- Check the power port on the laptop for any visible damage or debris.
BIOS Reset:
- Turn off the laptop and press the power button.
- Immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F10 to open the BIOS Setup Utility.
- In BIOS, press F9 to load default settings, then F10 to save and exit.
- Try to boot the laptop again.
Battery Check:
- If possible, remove the battery (if it's not sealed inside) and power the laptop directly with the charger. If the laptop boots, the issue might be with the battery.
- Reinstall the battery and see if the problem persists.
External Display:
- Connect the laptop to an external monitor to check if the issue is with the internal display. If the external monitor works, the problem might be with the laptop's screen or related components.
Keyboard Shortcuts:
- Sometimes, the laptop might be stuck in a different mode (like tablet mode). Press Windows + P and select "PC screen only" to ensure it's not outputting to a non-existent external display.
- Toggle between laptop and tablet modes if possible.
Reseat Hardware Components:
- If you're comfortable doing so, open the back cover of the laptop and check for loose connections. Ensure that the RAM and any other user-replaceable components are securely in place.
- Be cautious while handling internal components and ensure the laptop is unplugged and powered off before opening it.
Disconnect Peripherals:
- Disconnect any non-essential peripherals (USB devices, external drives, etc.) to ensure they are not causing any issues.

I hope this helps.
