HP EliteBook 840 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone, I have a HP EliteBook 840 G6 that has been my steady workhorse for some time now. Despite it's age, the battery health is quite good and I am still very mobile with it. Recently, though all of that has changed. For some unknown reason, it will no longer charge and I can only assume that the battery is dead, so it will not turn on. I have tried using a number of different HP barrel chargers and USB C laptop chargers, and yet nothing. I have therefore replaced the CMOS battery in case this was the issue, and checked for any potential short circuits with a multimeter. I have been left scratching my head and am not sure what to try next. Does anyone have any advice or is it time to find a professional to look at it?

Hi @FrogLord

When the laptop is turned on, press the F2 key several times, it enters diagnostics and runs the battery test and if there is a fault ID the battery needs to be replaced.

Hi Resistencia, unfortunately the laptop doesn't turn on so I cannot run this test.

if it does not turn on using the AC charger, your notebook probably has a damaged motherboard, You do not have a simple battery problem, your problem should be checked by a technician.
