Dear all,
one of my clients has got a old HP Elitebook 840 G1.
His request is to have a functional battery, the one installed is not good: when switching the laptop on, I get a message stating the battery needs to be replaced. In addition, he desires to have a bigger SSD of 512 GB.
At the moment I bought a new genuine battery: it is shown as "detected" and "plugged in" but not charging. Luckily I haven't bought the SSD yet.
After several attempts (consisting in reinstalling Windows 10, updating drivers, etc) I came to the conclusion that the only solution is in updating the BIOS; the laptop has got installed an outdated bios version 1.37 (the latest is 1.49).
The client doesn't even know of its existence being an inherited laptop.
Browsing around, it looks like HP doesn't provide the "smc.bin" file since 2019 and the only solution is a "eeprom device" to read the microchip (quite an invasive solution not worth the pain and the cost according to the client).
Any suggestions in how updating the BIOS without dealing with the BIOS password and leaving the password as it is?
I'm close to giving up asking for a refund for the battery I bought and inviting my client to put this laptop in the bin
