HP Elitebook 8740w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi - I have just purchased a replacement after-market battery for my HP Elitebook 8740W.

The machine is working perfectly, and running Windows 10. Everything functions normally when running from a mains adapter.

Although the new battery is certified as compatible, this only seems to apply to the physical fitment, as it fits perfectly in the battery bay without any issues.

At switch on-however, all the system lights come on as normal, but then I get a single one line message on a black screen:

"Please power off the system and install a newer version of the main battery pack"

The battery voltage etc are all the same as my original HP battery.

Can anyone suggest why I am getting this message, and is there a way to bypass it.
Just to confirm the new battery is brand new, straight out of the packaging. The laptop continues to function correctly on mains, or when booting from the original (but almost dead) HP battery.

Thanks
