It looks like I'm not the only one having issues, seems to be common with this unit. I purchased this Envy 17 3d laptop a couple of years ago, and I have always noticed that it has a hard time while editing my videos, but it has been getting worse lately. In fact, I can't even whatch a youtube video without it overheating. The fan starts to scream and I know what's coming next, lagging and freezing. This is very frustrating, especially after spending the amount of money we did for this machine. Very dissapointed.

After the last death of my Envy. I purchased a Toshiba windows 8 machine. It upgraded itself to death. So I was able to return it to Best Buy.
My solution: Purchase a Mac Book Pro. I have absolutely no issues with this machine. It runs everything I was running on the Envy. It is immensly faster than any Windows machine. It is way more stable.
Problem solved. HP does not care if they put a good product out or not.
My envy makes an incredible, but inefficient book end. HP is not a better company for putting out a pile of crap like they did. They should refund all of us for our purchase.
good luck. I don't think any of you will ever get these envys to work correctly. There should be a class action suit leveled against HP for full purchase price refund.
That is the only HP solution which will work for me.

I bought an HP computer in June of last year. It was so messed up, HP replaced it with a different new computer. The second one was worse than the first one so they replace that one with an Envy. The Envy is a mess too but I gave up and told them I don't want another HP computer. If your computer is still under warranty, maybe you can get a new one.
Good luck.

Rogers.
Depending on the model of the MacBook Pro it probable has an inherent GPU issue.
Sorry.

Hi,
I am not sure where your comment is coming from. I am having no issues with the monitor GPU, CPU or anything else on the Mac book pro.
I had more than 3 years of overheating issues which I tried to get HP to pay attention to. They had me send my unit back with on crashed hard drive due to the many many crashes it suffered. My envy would run for about 30 minutes and then lock up time after time after time.
I gave HP many chances to help me resolve it. The intel processor was an I 7 i think version 1. The fan would run all the time. The amount of heat that came out of the fan discharge would burn your hand.
An no the cooling ports were not blocked. there was no dirt inside. This started right out of the box.
If I had returned it in the 1st month I would be so mad about it. But I gave HP a chance to help resolve the issues.
They acted like this could not be an issue. They were really not interested in fixing this problem.
I was a complete supporter of HP until this style of support occurred. It now lays upside down on a book shelf. I can't use it at all. A total waste of $2000. I only have so many $2000.
So all you can find is a 2011 issue that Apple fixed with their new releases of machines. This Apple Macbook Pro is the best computer I have ever owned. It does not overheat. It will run all day and let me focus on my projects instead of having to reboot because it locked up in the middle of my projects.
As I said, "If HP offers me a full refund for my Envy I will be happy and probably forgive HP for the worst computer ever built award I am now giving HP.
HP needs to really listen to their customers instead of glossing over the issues.
