My laptop suddenly started asking for a boot password, but I have never set a password. This is an issue reported by a lot of people -- HP Envy laptops have a severe bug that causes people to unexpectedly get locked out of their computer.
I'm sure the answer is going to be "by policy HP does not allow us to help you". But I'm posting anyway to see if maybe HP has decided to both acknowledge the severe problem with their line of HP Envy laptops, and has decided to help people locked out of their laptops because of this bug.
Of course I cannot guess the password, since I never set it. But if I make 3 random attempts (or just press enter 3 times), the computer comes up with a disable code. I know this code can be used to get me back into my computer. What I need is:
1) Tell me what the code is that will get me back into my computer (and I should not have to pay for this, since HP has a known bug in their firmware)
2) Tell me how to keep this from happening again! Do I just need to update the BIOS?
IF HP is, by policy, unwilling to help on this forum, I need somebody to tell me how I can connect with an HP technician to get the reset code free of charge. Again, this is a severe and unacceptable bug in the HP computer. Customers should not need to pay HP to provide a simple reset code that they wouldn't even need if this bug was not embedded into the HP Envy computers.
