HP ENVY 13-ay1000 x360 Convertible PC (3T488AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!

I have an HP Envy x360 Convert 13-ay1035nr, 13.3 laptop.

For the past couple months, whenever I'd fully shut it down, it will not turn back on.

It'd be charging, or fully charged, still would not turn on.

I'd have to keep on pressing down on the power button to turn it on & finally it'll do it.

Well 2 days ago, it happened again and this time, no matter what I do, it will not turn on.

when I try to turn on my laptop, the power light will not come on and nor does the backlit keyboard. Only light that turns on is the LED light next to the charging indicator is lit up showing that it's fully charged.

The laptop is not within warranty.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @Blitzkov,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing some issues with your HP Envy x360 laptop not powering on properly. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  1. Perform a Hard Reset:

    • Disconnect the laptop from any power source.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Reconnect the laptop to the power source and try turning it on.
  2. Check the Charger and Battery:

    • Make sure your charger and charging cable are in good condition and properly connected.
    • If the laptop has a removable battery, consider removing it and then reinserting it. For laptops with non-removable batteries, you can skip this step.
  3. External Display Test:

    • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using the appropriate cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.). This will help you determine if the issue is with the laptop's display.
  4. BIOS Reset:

    • In some cases, resetting the BIOS may help. To do this, you may need to consult the laptop's manual for specific instructions on how to reset the BIOS.
  5. Run Diagnostics:

    • Most HP laptops have built-in diagnostics tools. You can usually access them by pressing a specific key (e.g., F2, F12, or ESC) during startup. Run the diagnostics to check for hardware issues.
  6. Check for Loose Connections:

    • Ensure that all internal components, such as RAM and hard drive, are properly seated and connected. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, consider seeking professional help.
  7. Boot in Safe Mode:

    • If you can power on the laptop but it doesn't boot into Windows, try booting into Safe Mode by pressing the appropriate key (usually F8) during startup. If it boots in Safe Mode, you may have a software issue.
  8. Windows Recovery/Repair:

    • If the laptop boots but has issues with Windows, you can try using Windows recovery or repair options to fix the operating system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, Alden

After about almost a week of it not turning on, yesterday, I managed to get it powered on.

I charged it to full battery capacity a few days prior, unplugged the AC Adapter for about 24 hours and tried a hard reset.

Immediately after it turned on, it gave me an error message.

I didn't get a chance to fully view the error message, but I believe it said this:
"the cmos checksum is invalid. the cmos will reset to the default configuration"

I managed to login and start using my machine like normal. I updated the bios firmware, as well.

shut it down this morning, to see if it'd power on - nothing. did not power back on.

If I am able to get it to power back on, I'm going to perform a factory reset in hopes that fixes it.

Besides that, based on the CMOS error message, does it sound like a motherboard issue?
