HP ENVY x360 2 in 1 laptop 15t-ew100

(Edited)

ProdID 794B8AV

Black screen on boot followed by CMOS 502 error.

This is my grandmothers computer, she was working on it about 6 months ago when all of the sudden it blacked screened. Has had 502 error ever sense, she sent it to me to look at.

I have tried all the troubleshooting on

HP PCs - 500, 501, or 502 error displays on a black screen

But have been unsuccessful.

Unfortunately, by the time she sent me the device, the warranty has expired.

What am I needing to do to get this fixed?

Hi @Marler_K,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The CMOS 502 error on your HP Envy x360 laptop indicates an issue with the BIOS during the startup process, specifically related to the checksum. This suggests that the BIOS may be corrupt. Follow these steps to attempt to resolve the error:

Press Enter to Restart:

  • When the error message displays, press enter to restart the PC. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve the issue.

Restore BIOS Using USB Drive:

  • If the 502 error persists after restarting, try to restore the BIOS using a USB recovery drive. Detailed instructions for creating and using a USB recovery drive can be found in the HP support documentation for BIOS recovery.

Clear CMOS:

  • Sometimes clearing the CMOS settings can resolve the issue. This involves removing the 3V RTC battery for a few minutes and then reinserting it along with the AC adapter and battery. Note that this should only be performed for troubleshooting purposes and not if the computer is working properly.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • A hard reset can clear all information in the computer’s memory and may restore functionality:
    • Turn off the computer.
    • Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
    • Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
    • Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
    • Disconnect the battery.
    • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual power.
    • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    • If a startup menu appears, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

I hope this helps.
