My Envy X360 (15z-ds100) randomly will not properly boot. If I push the power button, it immediately lights up, but the fans do not spin, the screen stays black, and the caps lock key light does not come on. If I hold the power button down for 30 seconds, when I push it again the laptop boot loops 5-6 times, with the fans briefly spinning (maybe for one second) each time before stopping. I have already tried to recover the BIOS by holding Windows+B and I have opened the computer, removed the battery, and powered it on using the charger only (with the same result).

Hi @otree38,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Envy X360 not booting. There can be several reasons for this problem, ranging from software issues to hardware malfunctions. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to identify and potentially resolve the issue.
- Check the Power Adapter: Ensure that your laptop is receiving power from the AC adapter. Sometimes, a drained battery or a faulty power adapter can prevent the laptop from booting. Try connecting the laptop to a different power outlet or use a different power adapter if available.
- Perform a Hard Reset: Disconnect the AC adapter, remove the laptop's battery (if possible), and then press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. After that, reconnect the battery and power adapter, and try turning on the laptop again.
- Check the Display: Make sure the display is functioning properly. If the laptop seems to be powered on but the screen remains black, try connecting the laptop to an external monitor or TV using the appropriate ports (HDMI or VGA) to see if the issue lies with the laptop's display.
- Boot into Safe Mode: If your laptop is partially booting but not fully starting up, try booting into Safe Mode. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and can help identify if the problem is caused by a third-party application or driver. To access Safe Mode, repeatedly press the F8 or F10 key during the boot-up process (before the Windows logo appears). On newer Windows versions, you may need to hold the Shift key while clicking on the "Restart" option in the Start menu.
- Perform a System Restore: If Safe Mode works and the issue started recently, try performing a system restore to revert your laptop's settings to a point when it was functioning correctly. This can help undo any recent changes that might be causing the booting problem.
- Run Built-in Diagnostics: Many laptops, including HP models, come with built-in hardware diagnostics tools. During the boot-up process, look for on-screen prompts or consult your laptop's manual to find the key or combination of keys to access the diagnostics utility. Run a full system scan to check for any hardware issues.
- Check the Boot Order: If your laptop gets stuck at the BIOS screen or shows a "No Bootable Device" error, check the boot order in the BIOS/UEFI settings. Ensure that the primary boot device is set to the correct storage drive (e.g., SSD or HDD with the operating system installed).
- Try Resetting BIOS/UEFI: If you suspect that the issue is related to the BIOS/UEFI settings, you can try resetting them to default values. In the BIOS/UEFI setup utility, look for an option to "Load Default Settings" or "Reset to Defaults."
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
