Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop doesn't turn on. When I press power button, only fan starts running, no other sounds and no lights. I think I had a similar problem about a year ago, but it was on Warranty and I called the technical support. They told me it was a residual charge and told me to press some buttons. I don't remember what  they were... Could it be resedue charge again? Or what else could it be? I tried holding the power button for 30 sec up to 1 min, nothing changed... Thank you!

@Natasha10,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Have you checked if there's display on external display by connecting a TV or a monitor to your notebook?

Let's try these steps here:

Step 1: Performing a hard reset

Resetting the computer can resolve many issues that cause a blank screen. Use the steps in Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset to reset your notebook.

Step 2: Connecting an external monitor to test the display

The notebook screen display might remain black when there is a corrupted graphics driver or a problem with the LCD display back light. To test the display, attach an external monitor and restart the computer. Testing with an external display is helpful if the notebook display is black but you can hear sounds; such as fans, spinning drives, or beep tones that indicate the computer is operating.

Step 3: Recovering the notebook BIOS using a key press combination

When you upgrade the BIOS on your notebook, a copy of the previous BIOS version is stored in the HP_TOOLS partition of your hard drive. Many HP notebook computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure.

Hello Jeet_singh,

thank you so much for your informative reply! i've tried all the steps, it still didn't help. I just also wanted to mention, that the power button is not lit when the fan is running. Could it all mean that the CPU has failed? Thank you again for your help!

@Natasha10,

In this scenario, I would personally suggest you contact our HP support team as this could be a possible hardware failure with the notebook.

Do the hard test and after that  put f11 system recovery and when you want a new pc ,do factory settings .that is the best solution.

Thank you! the hard reset didn't do anything, the laptop didn't start. I was told by hardware people, it looks like the motherboard failed. Thank you for your time!
