Was working on my laptop, power cord connected, when display went blank. Power is still on as keyboard lights, including power light, can be seen.
Disconnected power cord and peripherals. Keyboard lights still visible. After a few minutes fan stopped but keyboard lights still visible.
Pressing power button for various lengths of time (up to 60 seconds) has no effect.
What do I do now?
Will wait for battery to drain as there doesn't appear any way to turn it off.

Hi @KZ24,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP ENVY x360 laptop is experiencing a power issue or has become unresponsive. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.
Perform a Hard Reset
A hard reset can sometimes resolve unresponsive issues by clearing any stuck processes and resetting the hardware. Here's how you can do it:
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
- Disconnect the power cord.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds. This should force the laptop to shut down.
- Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to see if the laptop starts up normally.
Drain the Battery
Since the power button isn't responsive, allowing the battery to drain completely can force the system to shut down:
- Wait for the battery to drain completely. This might take several hours, depending on the remaining charge.
- Once the laptop is completely off, reconnect the power cord and wait for a few minutes.
- Try turning the laptop back on by pressing the power button.
Check for a Stuck Key
Sometimes a stuck key can cause the laptop to behave unexpectedly. Check if any keys are stuck or pressed down. If you find any, gently release them and try powering on the laptop again.
Boot into Safe Mode or BIOS
If the laptop turns on but the display remains blank, try to see if you can access the BIOS or Safe Mode:
- Turn off the laptop (press and hold the power button if necessary).
- Turn it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (or F2, F10, depending on your model) to enter the BIOS menu.
- If the BIOS screen appears, it indicates a software or driver issue. You can try booting into Safe Mode by restarting the laptop and pressing F8 or Shift+F8.
External Monitor Test
To determine if the issue is with the laptop's display or the internal graphics:
- Connect an external monitor to your laptop using an HDMI or VGA cable.
- Switch the display output by pressing the appropriate function key (often F4 or F8, depending on the model).
- If the external monitor displays an image, the issue may be with your laptop's screen or its connection.
By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and possibly resolve the issue with your HP ENVY x360 laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
