I use a usb-c magnetic charging cable like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CL33LL3/
Yesterday evening I pulled the laptop a bit too far and the cable shortly disconnected (it was still attached on one edge and immediately snapped back). The laptop turned off instantly and I could not start it again, the power button (located on the keyboard next to function keys) just did nothing.
I then followed all the steps available online, doing a hard reset (disconnecting charger and internal battery, pressing power button for ~1 minute, reconnect and power on). It worked, I shut it down again, expecting the problem to be solved.
Today I started it again and after a few minutes, the laptop suddenly turned off with some kind of clicking noise (although it may have just been the "power off click"). Now it does not power on regardless of what I'm doing. I once again tried the hard reset, but the led on the power button just flickered for a few seconds and nothing happened. I tried a few other things disconnecting power and battery and pressing buttons, at some point the power button led turned on for three seconds, but nothing happened.
Since then it's just dead.
The original charger still works, as does (seemingly) the battery, because the power led on the side turns from amber to white while charging. But that's the only life sign so far.
I also tried F6 + power button, windows key + b/v + power button etc to no avail. I'm beginning to think the motherboard died due to static energy or some other electricity issue connected to the magnetic charging cable.
It sounds like the issue described here: https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/727541/hp+envy+x360+15m-ed0023dx+won't+turn+on
The model also looks nearly the same (same power button design). He managed to start it with jumpering pins (see https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/727541/hp+envy+x360+15m-ed0023dx+won't+turn+on?permalink=comment...) but I was hoping there was another solution...
