HP Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought an HP Envy x360 2-in-1 device a little under 2 months ago for school. For the most part it has been working fine without significant issues. I left it in sleep mode last night and a few hours ago I turned it back on to find that it had updated the BIOS without my consent and needed to be restarted. The device "restarted" and brought up a message which read "FLASHING BOOT BLOCK." The screen then went black and has been completely nonresponsive ever since. However, the power LED is on and the fans are running. It has been impossible to power off (I tried hard resetting and using the Windows+B+Power key method to no avail).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated since I have two final exams on Monday for which I will need this computer. Thanks!

Looks like this issue has resolved on its own. How someone thought automatic BIOS updates were a good idea is beyond me. In case anyone else has the same problem and finds this post, here's what I did:

I let the battery run out of power, then plugged it back in and powered it on. Of course, that didn't work the first time. I overcame the urge to chuck my laptop out the window, left it unplugged again overnight and then plugged it back in, powered it on and it worked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Either way, I'm not sure what I would've done without all the incredibly helpful feedback from this forum, so thanks everybody!!! 🤣

Sounds like a driver to me, did you get a recent update?
