HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0009na

Hi, I have an issue with my HP Envy x360 13in (with AMD Ryzen 4700U processor) which has been an issue since i bought the laptop back in 2020.

I've seen other threads with likely the same issue on AMD hardware.

The laptop can get stuck in either laptop mode, or tablet mode after the machine has been on for a long time, or after sleep mode.

Restarting the laptop, or hibernating the laptop, fixes the issue. I believe this is a BIOS bug.

I'm on all the latest drivers, including the latest BIOS (F23).

This problem also was in Windows 10.

I don't think it is a hardware problem as hibernating/restarting the laptop fixes the issue, the sensor detecting tablet/laptop mode works perfectly.

There are other threads talking about the issue however they do not seem to have many solutions.

This is quite annoying where, you put the machine into sleep mode in tablet mode (laptop sitting on its side), and then cannot wake the machine as the keyboard stays disabled. The only way to wake the machine from sleep is to hold the power button down to force reset the laptop, potentially losing any unsaved work.

The problem:

When switching to tablet mode, the keyboard&touchpad stay active which means you can press the keys (unwanted behaviour)..

When switching to laptop mode, the keyboard&touchpad are not active which means you cannot use the laptop other than touchscreen.

To reproduce:

Have laptop plugged in & on sleep mode for a long time (must be more than ~8hrs) (make sure CPU is active for a long time, not easy to reproduce).. On resume of sleep the laptop will stay in whatever mode it was in last.

OR

Have laptop plugged in and screen on & active. Run the machine like this for 8hrs or more. (I recommend playing a long youtube video to avoid any screen damage due to static images). Then try and put the laptop into tablet mode / out of tablet mode.. The machine will not switch.

Restarting the laptop, or putting the laptop into hibernate mode then turning on again, fixes the issue.

Restarting the AMD UMDF sensor driver seems to fix the issue, but if i can't wake the laptop then i can't restart the driver.
