HP Envy x360 stuck on black screen and loud fans after update.

What's up everybody,

I've had my laptop for nearly 2 weeks now and ran into an annoying issue today...

Whilst, browsing my outlook HP assistant popped up with an update for my laptop which needed to device to restart. After finish my task and having some free time, I've decided to go with the update.

I let hp assistant do the restart and went to the kitchen. After few minutes, I came back and found my laptop on a black screen with loud fans.

I've tried holding the power button for 15sec to hard reset it but no luck.. I unplugged my power cable from it as well but the light (which indicates the laptop is charging) is still on regardless of no cable being there.

Since, I cant really turn it off and don't want to unscrew it to remove battery completely (I have hp care for 3 yrs). I'm hoping that maybe someone ran into the same problem as I and found a way to fix it?

At the moment, my plan is to wait for the laptop to get 0% battery and hope from the best there.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:  (refer to Non-removable battery)

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
