hi!
I have a HP Notebook model G62 and i want to boot a live linux distro from an usb key.
I can't find the way to make it! I know i should enable legacy boot but in the BIOS, under "security setting" or "boot settings" i don't anything about UEFI/Legacy boot.
Help 🙂

Thank you, burro92. Looking at the date and specs of that system, it appears that SecureBoot was not supported on that platform... which would explain why it doesn't appear in the BIOS menus.
So, the problem you're encountering in booting from your USB drive may be related to one of two things:
- the distro you're trying to boot is enabled for SecureBoot. If this is the case, you will need a distro on USB that will boot in legacy mode.
- the USB drive is not being recognized during startup. This gets very tricky, but what I can tell you from personal experience is that some USB drives aren't quite up to USB spec... and in doing so, may no be visible as a valid statup device. You might try another key.
TRUE STORY: I ordered 400 custom-printed USB drives - a repeat of a previous order - to be loaded with our HP PC Hardware Diagnostics software. Even though it was a repeat of a previous order... the new keys didn't work! After a lot of painful debug, I found that instead of programming in a valid vendor and device ID into each drive, the USB drive manufacturer programed a vendor of "ABCD" and a device of "1234"... among other things. Our supplier quickly sent me replacements that met USB spec, and life went on.
Anyhow, I hope this information helps. Good luck, and let us know how this works out for you!
