Hello everyone,

I have exactly the problem of the title. Every time i plug in the charger in my laptop, it starts after 5 seconds, like pressing the power button. I have changed  main battery, hard disk, CMOS battery, and RAM. I have also disconnected wifi and bluetooth module. After this, the laptop's behaviour is perfect. The only problem is the selfish startup. Any ideas?

@Panagiotis3 This is most likely a faulty RTC Battery failure, however, I suggest you update the BIOS and Chipset drivers using the HP website: Click here to find and install the same,

Once done, restart the device and check if it works, if not, here's what you need to know:

  • Basically, there are 3 power sources for the motherboard ac adapter, laptop battery, and CMOS battery
  • Hence, try with an alternate power adapter, try without power surge or with another wall outlet and check if that works.
  • If nothing works, you may want to replace the RTC (also known as CMOS) battery to resolve the issue!

Let me know how that pans out,

Good morning,

Unfortunately, I have tried all these solutions with no success. New CMOS battery, althgouh the existing gave me 3.05V, new charger with new power 3pin cord, removed main battery, BIOS update to the latest version, changed hard disk with other OS (Windows 10), other RAM.

@Panagiotis3 I suggest we perform a power reset to release any static that could be causing this issue, please use the steps in this link: Click here

If the issue persists, I suggest you check if this works: go to BIOS and under power management, you will see an option "Wake on AC" or "Power on AC," mentioned. Just disable or unclick this option and it should work!
If the options are not available, let me know.

Hello,

I performed the power reset, no results. There is no such an option in BIOS menu. It is probably the motherboard or the power jack which is soldered.

@Panagiotis3 I'm afraid it is either the motherboard or the charger port that's also connected to the motherboard and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, is yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
