HP G72-259WM Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'm attempting to replace the HD with a Kingston A400 SSD and the HP G72 laptop (Win7 OS) will not boot the SSD nor read when connected externally via USB.  It has InsydeH20 BIOS version F.37.  The BIOS does not offer changing the boot from secure to legacy or AHCI partitioning.

I'm currently updating the drivers from hp.com but so far no luck.  Please help.

Sounds like the SSD is dead. Can you read it from other machine (using USB) ?

Regards.

Hi Banhien - Yes, the SSD works great when connected to a newer laptop with Win10.  Actually, in doing that test, I discovered the G72 was able to begin installing the original Win7 OS via recovery manager (I was planning to use the recovery CDs to do a fresh start with the new SSD vs cloning the original HDD because the SSD is smaller in size).  That is very strange the recovery manager was able to partitiion the new SSD and install the windows setup files but not recognize it when either connected as the internal HDD nor external via USB.  thank for your assistance!

Can anyone tell me whether my G72-259WM Notebook is SATA 1 or SATA 2 ?  Kingston is telling me they've had problems with SATA 1.

I performed a HD Quick Test and HD SMART Check and the SSD passed:

According to the flow chart at:  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02876562  my problem is with the OS, software or other hardware problems.  I tried connecting the SSD to 2 PCs at work running Win7 SP1 via the USB-to-SATA cable (same connection as with HP G72) and neither of them recognized the USB-connected drive.  These machines are 6-7 years old.  Do I need to upgrade the OS to Win10 ?

I just discovered the USB 3.0 to SATA 1/2/3 cable I'm using for externally connecting the SSD may not be backward compatible with the USB 2.0 ports on the HP G72.  Currently trying to confirm that.
