Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Machine opens HP Jumpstatrt ap on each boot up.  Two things:

1. It doesn't work - just sits there saying 'preparing' and after 5 minutes tells me there is a server problem, so I close it

2. I don't want it to appear on every boot up but can't find it in settings to deactivate it - I found everything else i want on start up and was able to switch in and out, but not Jumpstart.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

Thanks for the links Lil_Boy_Blue.  Good to know what should happen!

To be fair, some of this did happen on the first couple of boot ups, but now on boot up I get the Welcome screen (showing 'protect', 'customise', 'get acquainted' ledgends, and a message saying "we're working on it"  "Is your internet working?"   After a few minutes the screen changes and declares "somthing went wrong at our end - check back soon"

For the avidance of doubt, I have registered with HP; I think I skipped Dropbox, and I also skipped MacAfee (I have a dfferent protection system in use).  And the internet is working.  So, whilst it would be intersting to see through the content that JumpStart links to, if I can't (for whatever reason) I'd just like to stop the screen appearing at boot up.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi

Perhaps a vanilla os install, over the top, may clear this up, BUT it is pretty drastic.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Although a spare USB with an OS on is always handy.

DuckDuckGo suggests

https://www.shouldiremoveit.com/HP-JumpStart-Launch-179835-program.aspx

I would look at SysInternals Suite   Autoruns  just in case it is an option to disable.....

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns

Autoruns

If in doubt (and I am) please ask.

Thanks all for your suggestions.

I've now managed to find 'uininstall' in settings (not that I didn't know it existed, just where to look for it in Windows 10! Wish they'd leave things alone if they work!!).  And have found

  • HP JumpStart (3.37MB);
  • HP JumpStart Apps (122MB);
  • HP JumpStart Bridge (15.4MB) and
  • HP JumpStart Launch (437KB).

I guess my question now is, which of these can I uninstall without doing anything other than getting ris of the annoying JumStart balerdash that  blights boot up?  And which do I need to keep for contingency?

I guess the suplementary is are they all embedded into the recovery partition anyway, so I'd get them back if, as Lil_boy_Blue suggested I did a vanillla reinstall.

Any thoughts and ideas welcome

Thanks
