I have never changed by pin. My desktop & laptop has the same pin. I logged on via my desktop to www.account.live.com/password/reset & was sent a code to input to enable me to reset my pin but it's not accepting the code. I repeated the request a second time & received the same result. Any ideas or solutions will be greatly appreciated. Don't think I will be purchasing another HP anything. They want to charge me to help me out. I thought the Carepack I purchase would help resolve the issue but it want. Thank you.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP laptop and the PIN is not working. I read that you receive a code from Microsoft and the code does not work. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

If you forget PIN but Remember the Login Password please try the following steps:
Step 1: In the login screen, you can click the key logo to input the login password of the account.
Step 2:Open the “Settings” in Win menu and click on the “Account” icon to enter account settings.
Step 3:Choose “Sign-in option” and click “I forgot my PIN”, you can reset your PIN now.
- If it is a local account, please input the local account login password, and then you can reset your PIN.
- If it is a Microsoft account, a popup will ask you “Are you sure you forgot your PIN”, click “Continue” button. You need to verify your Microsoft account password, and then you can set a new PIN for your current account.
Restart your computer, choose the number logo, you can login your computer with the new PIN now!
Another way of unlocking the PIN is shown below. You might have to login to another account to achieve this:
- Click on the Windows icon in the left-hand corner of your screen, you’ll open up the Start menu. Next click on Settings.
- When the Settings app opens, click on Accounts.
- Click on Sign-in options on the left pane. Under the PIN section, click on the “I forgot my PIN” link.
- The password reset procedures differ between Microsoft account and local account.
For Local Account:
- If you’re using a local account, Windows will prompt you to verify your local account password. Enter your password and click OK.
- You’re now prompted to set up PIN again. Enter 4 digit number for your new PIN login and click OK. If you want to remove and disable the PIN, click Cancel.
For Microsoft Account:
- If you PIN is for a Microsoft account, you’ll see this confirmation dialog. Click Continue to confirm that you really forgot your PIN.
- Microsoft will send you a security code to validate that you are the owner of the Microsoft account. Enter the recovery email address for verification and click on Next.
- Check your email account and look for a message from Microsoft account team. Copy the security code from the mail and paste it in the Code text box. Click on Next.
- Now you can either set up a new PIN or click Cancel to disable/remove the PIN login completely.
- If you’re using a local account, Windows will prompt you to verify your local account password. Enter your password and click OK.
Hope this information helps. Keep me posted. Good luck! 🙂
