I've just changed the battery in my HP Pavilion 13-an006 (Windows 11 OS) as the original had expanded so much it had deformed the case and was getting very hot!
Now the laptop will only boot when the AC adapter is connected.
When trying to boot from the battery the white power LED flashed 3 times but fails to go to the boot screen (I've seen a similar flashing sequence when I plugged the wrong AC adapter into another HP laptop I own so that might be a clue !).
Once the boot screen does appear I can unplug the AC adapter and the battery will power the laptop perfectly well.
Other symptoms - A 'No Battery' icon is seen on the boot screen and there is no 'battery charge' display on the task bar and I can't add it as no battery appears in the 'Settings'
This sounds like the battery is not being recognized - any ideas how to correct ?
Thanks Ian

Hi @IanC_0465,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion 13 laptop is not booting directly from the battery but can run on battery power after the boot screen, it might indicate a power management or battery-related issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Reset the power management settings: Start by resetting the power management settings to their default values. To do this, shut down your laptop, unplug the power adapter, remove the battery (if possible), and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Then, reinsert the battery (if removed), plug in the power adapter, and try booting the laptop again.
- Check the battery health: If the battery is old or faulty, it might not be able to provide enough power during the boot process. You can check the battery health through the HP support software or BIOS settings. If the battery health is significantly degraded, consider replacing it.
- Update the BIOS and drivers: Outdated BIOS firmware or drivers can sometimes cause power-related issues. Visit the HP support website and download the latest BIOS update and relevant drivers for your laptop model. Install them following the provided instructions.
- Perform a power reset: Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery. Then, press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to drain any residual power. Afterward, reinsert the battery, plug in the power adapter, and try booting the laptop again.
- Reset the BIOS settings: Access the BIOS settings by pressing a specific key (like F2 or Del) during the boot process. Once in the BIOS, look for an option to reset the settings to their default values. Save the changes and exit the BIOS. Then, try booting the laptop again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
