Check for Background Processes
Background processes can consume resources:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Look for processes using a lot of CPU, memory, or disk space and end tasks that are unnecessary.
Perform a Clean Boot
A clean boot can help identify if background programs are causing issues:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and open Task Manager.
- Disable all startup items.
- Restart your computer.
Consider Hardware Upgrades
If the laptop continues to be slow, consider upgrading the hardware:
- Adding more RAM can significantly improve performance.
- Switching from an HDD to an SSD can also make a notable difference.
Revert to Windows 10
If none of the above steps help, you might consider reverting to Windows 10 if the performance was better before the upgrade.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Celo_2000,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue of HP Notebook - 15 laptops becoming slow after upgrading to Windows 11 is not uncommon. Several users have reported similar experiences. Here are some steps and tips that might help improve performance.
Check for Windows Updates
Ensure that your system has all the latest updates from Microsoft. Sometimes, performance issues are resolved through patches and updates.
Update Drivers
Outdated drivers can cause significant slowdowns. Make sure all your drivers, especially those for the graphics card, chipset, and storage, are up to date. You can do this via the Device Manager or by visiting the HP support website.
Disable Startup Programs
Many programs start automatically with Windows, which can slow down your system. To manage startup programs:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab.
- Disable any unnecessary programs.
Adjust Power Settings
Switching to a high-performance power plan can improve performance:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
- Select High performance.
Check for Malware
Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any other reputable antivirus software to ensure your system isn’t infected with malware.
Clean Up Disk Space
Freeing up disk space can help improve performance:
- Run Disk Cleanup by searching for it in the Start menu.
- Remove unnecessary files, including system cache and temporary files.
Adjust Visual Effects
Windows 11’s visual effects can consume resources. Adjusting them can help:
- Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.
- Go to the Advanced tab and click on Settings under Performance.
- Select Adjust for best performance or manually disable individual effects.
