HP Notebook - 15-ay041wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Bought this laptop brand new and have had it a little over a month. Has worked just fine up until a few days ago. Now, whenever I unplug the AC cord, the computer immediately shuts off and will not start back up. When I plug it back in it starts up just fine. Thought it might be a battery problem, but it has worked fine up until now. The battery icon on Windows 10 says it is 100% charged, and I ran a check on it with the HP Support Assistant program that came on the PC, and it says the battery is working fine.

It is almost brand new (just over a month old), has never been dropped or anything, has never had anything spilled on it, and has worked fine up until now.

It is an HP Notebook - 15-ay041wm (Touch) (ENERGY STAR)

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the device turns off as soon as the adapter is disconnected from the wall outlet,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you reinstall or update the battery drivers?

Have you installed the latest BIOS updates? Click here to install, if you haven't.

While you complete the steps, if you haven't already, here's what you need to do:

  • Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
  • Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
  • Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Also, If you have any alternate batteries available, please check if that works.

Let me know if those steps worked for you,

If they did, that's awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck
