HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear Community.

I've recently (January 10th or so) bought a brand new laptop, a hp pavilion 15-au181na from Currys/PCWorld.

I've soon noticed that the warranty on the product expired on the 21st of January, which was odd. I went back to Currys, who told me not to worry about it as it'll 'fix itself' as all laptops start with a warranty after they're being sold.

So sure the day came, it expired, however I left it.

Recently I've started experiencing freezing issues which freeze up the entire laptop, nothing can be moved, if there was music playing or any audio, it gets stuck and constantly "repeats" the noise it was on (if that makes sense).

I've tracked down the issue, which I've checked in the system logs to a Kernel (41) error, which has something to do with the harddrive as far as I know. Now, would it be worth extending the product's warranty or replacing the hard drive by myself? I'd also like to save all data I have on my current hard drive if possible.

Thanks for the help, any other ideas are appreciated.

Mark

Hi,

There are 2 main methods you can try to salvage data from hard drive if you're having issues with hard drive:
1) Create LiveCD from another computer. Boot from this disc in your laptop, then copy the files from HDD to another external hard drive connected to notebook.

2) Take out the hard drive out. Connect it to another computer using SATA to USB adapter. Use Windows explorer to copy the files you need from HDD to another external hard drive.

Then perform extensive system testing from System Diagnostics UEFI: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467259

Contact HP if there is any failure,

They would replace it free of cost.

If you've invoice bill of this purchase, you can scan it and send it to HP on request to update warranty dates.
