Hi @Tomxxx

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation—I'm really sorry you're facing this. When your HP OMEN laptop won’t boot and shows a blinking caps lock pattern, it’s usually a hardware-level diagnostic code. The pattern you described—5 long blinks and 3 short blinks—is especially important.

What the Blink Code Means

On HP laptops, 5 long + 3 short white blinks typically indicates a system board failure, often related to the embedded controller or BIOS corruption. This can happen after a forced shutdown, especially if the system was frozen due to a hardware fault.

What You Can Try First

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB, HDMI, etc.).
  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the power adapter and try powering on.

2. Try BIOS Recovery

If the embedded controller is still responsive, this may trigger recovery.

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
  • If successful, the BIOS recovery screen will appear.

3. Check for Signs of Life

  • Listen for fan spin or drive activity.
  • If the screen remains black and the blink code persists, the issue is likely deeper.

You’ve done the right thing by catching the blink pattern—it’s the key to diagnosing this.

Let me know if you’d like help checking warranty coverage or locating a service center near you.
