OMEN Laptop - 15-en0013dx
Microsoft Windows 11

After using Norton Driver Updater to fix an audio problem, my HP Omen Model 15-en0013dx laptop running on 64-bit Windows 11 Home will not boot.  Instead, it displays the following sequence of black-screen error messages:

First, “Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart.  We’ll restart it for you.
            Stop code IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL(0xA)
           What Failed:  ntoskrnl.exe”

Next, the Omen Logo appears with ” Preparing Automatic Repair”

Then, the Omen logo appears with “Diagnosing your PC”

The next screen displays:  “Your device ran into a problem and couldn’t be repaired.
Click or press Enter to see other recovery options.
                                                         Couldn’t connect to the network
                                                         Log file C:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srtrail.txt”

I can view the contents of the solid-state drive via the Command Prompt.  However, the C:\windows\system32\logfiles\ folder does not have an \srt subfolder.

I tried to roll back to the latest Windows Restore Point, but the Restore points were either inaccessible or had disappeared.

I tried to reinstall Windows via the USB Recovery Drive I had created using the HP Omen laptop.  I choose the retain all my data files option.  It would go all the way through the recovery process up to the 99% completion point.  The It starts installing, reaches the 2% mark and then displays Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart” again.

I tried using the USB Recovery Drive again, this time using the option to let the Recovery Drive erase all the hard drive contents, but with the same result.

The laptop passes all of the following HP UEFI PC Hardware Diagnostics tests:

  • Quick memory check
  • Boot related symptom test
  • System Board Test
  • The Fast version of the System Test which included:

                  -    Processor Check

                  -    Wireless Module Check

                  -    Hard Drive SMART check

                  -    Hard Drive Short DST Check

                  -    System Board Check

( Note:  The Battery Check did not run, because the AC adapter was plugged in.)

I have not tried rolling back the BIOS, given that HP current BIOS version had been updated a while back and caused no problems since then.

Do you have a solution?

The only suggestion I can offer would be to make a W11 USB installation flash drive with the Microsoft media creation tool from the link below (2nd option) and clean install W11.

Download Windows 11

After W11 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page for any drivers that W11 didn't install.

I like to install the AMD chipset drivers from the AMD website which HP does not supply:
