HP OmniBook X Flip 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-kc0000 (D0QZ7AV)

I purchased the Omnibook X flip 14 with OLED screen Ryzen AI  7 24GB DDR 1TB - really nice laptop.  Bought it on sale in June (great price), love it but it cannot get through windows .NET or Security updates - it will reboot but lock up on the black HP logo startup screen.  Each time I must hold down the power button several times and it has to undo the update.  It's stuck on 2026-08 .NET and security updates, they just wont go through.

other windows update have been buggy but hard reset usually gets them through, but not .NET or security update 2026-08.

Hi  @BroMoney

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your HP OmniBook X Flip overall. I understand that your laptop is consistently getting stuck at the HP logo screen whenever the August 2026 .NET Framework and Windows Security Updates attempt to install. Let’s work through this together.

To better understand the issue, could you kindly confirm a few details?

  • Are you receiving any specific Windows Update error codes?
  • Are you using any third-party antivirus or security software besides Windows Security?
  • When the system becomes stuck on the HP logo, does the Caps Lock key respond, or is the system completely unresponsive?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

1. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings -System -Troubleshoot -Other troubleshooters.
  2. Locate Windows Update.
  3. Click Run and allow the process to complete.
  4. Restart the notebook and retry the update.

2. Verify BIOS Version

Since the system is hanging at the HP startup logo during the update process, kindly check whether a newer BIOS version is available for your specific model through HP Support Assistant or the HP Software and Driver Downloads page - https://support.hp.com/ .

Once you've had a chance to try the above steps, kindly share the requested details along with any update error codes or screenshots.

I hope this helps.

I did a chat with HP support. they took control of the laptop. they verified BIOS is up to date.  they were not able to resolve the issue.  When the security update (june) tries to install the system hangs at the HP startup screen (black screen with HP logo), there is no spinning circle.  Only the power button works.  must power on of 3rd time to undo the update.  So laptop cannot apply windows updates since new still.

I tried windows troubleshooter as you requested, the troubleshooter fails and no action taken.

Hi @BroMoney,

Thank you for getting back to us and for providing those detailed updates. I understand that despite working with HP Technical Chat  Support remotely, the issue remains unresolved, and your HP OmniBook X Flip continues to hang at the HP logo screen whenever Windows attempts to install the security or preview updates. I can certainly understand .

Based on the information you've shared:

  • HP Support has already remotely accessed the device and confirmed the BIOS is up to date.
  • The Windows Update Troubleshooter was unable to complete successfully.
  • Windows must roll back the update after multiple restart attempts.
  • The issue appears to affect multiple Windows updates, including security and preview updates.

As the troubleshooting performed so far has not resolved the problem, To get you the best assistance, we need to take this conversation to a private chat. We're inviting you to a private message to protect your privacy and ensure that any sensitive information remains confidential.

I was able to get .NET and security updates tUninstaller by rebooting prior to the preview update completing. Now it cannot complete the Preview Update 2026-08 KB5120998. It will freeze on HP screen and need to be Uninstalled.

Hi,

Thank you for the update. I'm glad you were able to get the .NET and Security updates installed, but I understand that the August 2026 Preview Update KB5120998 is now causing the same freeze at the HP logo, requiring Windows to uninstall the update. Since BIOS is already up to date and the Windows Update troubleshooter failed, I would not repeat those steps.

For now, I recommend not forcing the KB5120998 Preview Update to install. Preview updates are optional, so you can leave it uninstalled and continue using Windows with the regular cumulative/security updates.

If the next regular Windows security update also freezes at the HP logo, please let us know. At that point, we can investigate the recurring startup failure further rather than treating this as an isolated preview-update issue.

Best regards,
