Hi @Mesh09
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see there is an issue with the BIOS. Could you please elaborate more? At the mean time please follow the steps.
If you're experiencing issues with your HP PC (such as Wi-Fi not working or other hardware problems), using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI can help you identify and troubleshoot the issue. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool allows you to test different hardware components to check if there’s a specific hardware failure, like with the Wi-Fi card, motherboard, or other internal components.
How to Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
Here’s how to access and run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to check for hardware problems:
1. Power Off Your Laptop/PC
- Ensure your HP laptop or PC is completely powered off before you begin.
2. Power On and Access UEFI Diagnostics
- Press the Power button to turn on the device.
- Immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (every second) as soon as the HP logo appears. This should take you to the Startup Menu.
- In the Startup Menu, press the F2 key to select System Diagnostics (this opens the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI).
3. Run Hardware Tests
After accessing the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, you’ll be presented with different diagnostic options. You can run various tests to check the functionality of different hardware components:
Quick Test: This is a basic test to check major components like the CPU, memory, and hard drive. It’s a good starting point for quickly identifying any obvious issues.
- Click on "Quick Test" to run a diagnostic scan.
- The test will take a few minutes. If any issues are found, it will show you an error code, which can help identify the problem.
Component Test: If you suspect a specific issue (e.g., Wi-Fi card, battery, or other components), you can run individual tests for each part of the system.
- Click on Component Tests, and you’ll be able to select specific components to test, like:
- Network Card (to test the Wi-Fi adapter)
- Memory (RAM test)
- Hard Drive
- Battery (to check battery health)
- You can also test USB ports, audio, and other components here
I hope this helps.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I'm also experiencing problems when trying to install a Linux OS on my HP 650 G1. I keep getting errors when trying to boot from the hard drive. Sometimes, drive isn't found, sometimes OS isn't found, sometimes it will boot up and works fine, but all new data is lost after longer shutdown period, but not after restart or short shutdown period. I have two drives for this machine (one is a spare), both of which pass all tests in the System Diagnostic tests although Component Test isn't an option on the menu in my System Diagnostic Test app. Boot Repair gives recommended repair info about Legacy/efi mode, etc. but requires access to the Bios menu to make changes, which on my machine allows changes only to date, time and boot order. There is no Advance Tab.
I believe that HP purposely blocked access to the advanced Bios menu for warranty reasons, however, my machine's warranty expired in 2013 (I received the laptop second hand without an OS). It's a great machine but I don't understand why I'm still not allowed to access the Bios so that I can play around and configure it how I want. I've been having fun trying to sort it, there no data to lose yet, only test pieces, but It's very frustrating not being able to use it to its full potential. Maybe there is a component failure causing the issue, but it hasn't shown up in any of the tests that I've done. At 76 yrs, I'm hoping that my efforts will pay off 😆
