I went to use my HP Pavilion 14-ec0005na after coming back of a weeks holiday. It had been on sleep and plugged in the entire time, on logging in I realised it wasn’t charging, the charging port light wasn’t on either.
I managed to run a system test before it died (see below) showing ‘Battery check: Primary - Calibration required (21)’ and ‘No AC power (21)’
After losing charge it is now 100% dead. I have tried a removing the battery and running on the charger, I have bought a new charger, I have installed a new charging port and disassembled and cleaned the inside of the laptop with no change
I have run out of ideas, is there anything else I can try or is it likely a motherboard issue. If so what are my options

Hi @DanRS93
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for laying out everything so clearly—it’s genuinely frustrating to return from a break and find your laptop completely unresponsive despite being plugged in the whole time.
You’ve already taken several thorough steps, which helps narrow things down. Let’s walk through a few final checks before considering deeper hardware issues.
Additional Steps to Try
1. Perform a Hard Reset with Battery Disconnected
Since the battery is removable:
- Disconnect the battery and AC adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect only the AC adapter (leave battery out) and try powering on.
2. Inspect the Motherboard for Power Delivery
Even though you’ve cleaned the internals:
- Look closely for any signs of corrosion or burnt components near the charging circuit.
- If you have access to a multimeter, check voltage at the DC-in jack and across the battery terminals when plugged in.
3. Try HP UEFI Diagnostics via USB
If the laptop won’t power on normally:
- Create a bootable USB with HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Plug it in and try powering on while pressing Esc or F2. If it boots, run the AC adapter and battery tests again.
If the system remains completely dead:
- Motherboard failure is a strong possibility, especially in the power delivery or charging IC.
- The “No AC power” result suggests the board isn’t recognizing input from the adapter, even after replacing the port and charger.
You’ve done a commendable job troubleshooting so far—let’s see if we can push it one step further.
