Hi, i bought an HP Pavilion 15 15-eh30004la almost a week ago and it turns off unexpectedly after a couple minutes of work.
I tried to solve it but it keeps happening, i do these things:
1. I run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows tool but everything went okay
2. Enter into the Control Panel > System and Security > Security and Maintenance > Reliability Monitor to look for errors messages and it's shows this:
The images shows the errors that happened, multiples "Windows was not properly shut down"
3. I looked for BIOS and drivers updates, there was a BIOS update which i did.
4. I looked for info in the internet and in some forus the people said that the error might be caused for the "Turn on fast startup" options that Windows have by default. I disable it
The PC apparently has no overheating problems since it's okay to the touch, it's happening with the charger plugged and not. Some times it shuts down after 2-3 minutes and some times after 45/60, it's just random
UPDATE:
I installed a third party software to verify the overheating theory and it shows this seconds before the shut down:
Apparently it´s a overheating problem (i set the alert at 90°C since it's 95°C the max according to the Ryzen specifications for the Ryzen 7-7730u) but when i ran the tests on HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows was everything okay
Thanks for the help

Hi @JoseArroyavem,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already, but the symptoms you're describing — unexpected shutdowns and high temperatures recorded by third-party software — do suggest a thermal issue. Even though the HP diagnostics tool didn't report any problems, the temperatures reported (around 90°C) indicate the system might be shutting down due to overheating as a protective measure.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Verify Cooling System (Fans and Vents)
- Clean the vents: Ensure that the laptop's vents aren't blocked by dust or debris. Use compressed air to clean them.
- Check fan operation: Listen for the fan. If it's unusually quiet or loud, it could indicate a problem with the fan's operation.
- You might also want to monitor fan speeds using third-party software like HWMonitor or SpeedFan to see if the fan is running at appropriate speeds when the CPU heats up.
2. Power Management Settings
Adjust power settings: In Control Panel > Power Options, change the plan to Balanced and click on Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. In the Processor power management section, try lowering the Maximum processor state to something like 95%. This can help prevent the CPU from running at its peak, reducing heat output.
Disable fast startup: You mentioned that you have already disabled this, which is a good step. You can double-check it by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do and making sure the "Turn on fast startup" option is unchecked.
3. Update Chipset and Graphics Drivers
- Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause overheating or shutdown issues. Make sure you’ve installed the latest chipset drivers from the HP support page specific to your laptop. You should also check for updates for your AMD Ryzen 7-7730u integrated graphics drivers.
4. Check for BIOS Throttling Settings
- Since you updated the BIOS, check the BIOS settings to ensure that thermal throttling is enabled. This will help the system automatically reduce performance if temperatures rise too high.
- You can access the BIOS by restarting the laptop and pressing the appropriate key (usually F10 for HP) during startup.
5. Limit CPU Usage and Monitor Temps
- As an additional step, you can use a utility like Ryzen Controller to manually limit the TDP (Thermal Design Power) of your CPU, which will lower its heat generation.
- Continue to monitor temperatures using a tool like HWMonitor or Core Temp and try to keep it under 85°C during normal usage.
6. Test on Battery and Power Adapter
- Since the shutdowns occur both when the charger is plugged in and not, try using the laptop with just the battery or with a different power adapter if possible. This can help isolate any power-related issues.
7. Potential Hardware Issue
- If the shutdowns persist even after following all the above steps, it’s possible there could be a defect in the cooling system (e.g., a malfunctioning thermal sensor, thermal paste issue, or a faulty cooling fan). Since the laptop is new, you should consider returning it to HP for warranty service or replacement if the problem continues.
8. Check Event Viewer for Detailed Errors
- You can also look deeper into the system logs by opening Event Viewer (type it in the Start menu) and checking under Windows Logs > System for any critical errors or events around the time of the shutdowns.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
