HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 16-a0032dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I do a full shutdown, my HP Pavilion 16 laptop does not turn back on. The power button lights up for a second, the keyboard light flickers and then everything shuts back off. After 5 seconds, it comes back on, and then immediately shuts back off, making it impossible to boot up. This endless boot-fail repeats until I eventually am forced to unplug the battery.

Other than that, this laptop, once powered on, works flawlessly, and the issue ONLY resides in the initial boot-up. I've run full HP hardware and software diagnostics with no abnormal results. My laptop works absolutely fine when it manages to be powered on, but before it can manage to start windows, I get a blue error screen described below.

Blue Screen Info: I get this specific error message every single time in the rare instances where the computer FINALLY decides to boot up after hours of trying - "The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will be reset to the default configuration and will be rebooted" after which, once this message disappears, Windows operates normally.

Would this issue reside in a faulty BIOS chip? Or is it something else entirely? Because I know that this laptop works absolutely fine after managing to boot up and this blue message goes away.

  • After this booting problem started, I updated the BIOS successfully to the newest version, but the problem still persisted.

Would greatly appreciate any feedback and help to fix this issue without having to resort to replacing the motherboard entirely, Thank you.

You never do a full shutdown as long as you have this hiberfil.sys monster.
Disable/delete that and run cmd as admin and type:
powercfg /H off

after that you have a full shutdown

Hi,

It sounds like a battery problem.

Did you replace the battery?

Is the PC still under warranty?

Have you entered BIOS and reset the default configs?

Let us know,

David
