HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p100dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Was using my notebook last night, powered down and fell asleep. This morning I tried to power up and the power button has no effect. Al I can see is the little power LED let next to the power cord lit. I press the power button and 'nothing'. I hold the power button down but , nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

After tearing down the laptop I found the problem.  The LED blinking with 1 slow blink ended up being a DC short on the 5V USB rail.

I work with a USB gadget called an Arduino. Arduino's can be modified with add-on's called shields. Well, I was playing around with a shield which was an electric motor driver (LOTS OF CURRENT FOR A USB PORT) hooked up to the USB port. I ran the motor in full current mode and it ended up frying the port.

To make a long story short I ended up shorting the 'right' USB port which is mounted on a module (DAY11ATB6G0). I simply disconnected the module from the motherboard and removed it from the laptop. Now my system boots with no issues.

Hi

Hard reset, but you may already have done this...

Please 1st try a Hard Reset

Press and Hold the PWR off button for 4 seconds to force a PWR off.

Unplug from the wall.

If you see a battery compartment door, your computer has a removable battery.

Remove any removable battery.

This is valid for most notebooks;

Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to complete the reset.

Re-insert any battery you removed.

Hello,

I tried to hold the button down for 15 sec with the battery out. The only thing I noticed was the power LED blinking about 3 times. The LED blinking is not repeatable.

[edit]

Unless someone has another suggestion this is looking like a teardown.

Hi

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833

Turn off the notebook.
Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.
With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time (WinKey +B).

NB: On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key and the V key (WinKey +V).

While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

Hello,

I tried holding down the Windows Keys + 'B' key then pressing the power button for 2-3 seconds.

The only thing that happens is the (now orange charging LED by the power jack) simply blinks.

I am unable to power up the system so all the other options in the link you provided are irrelivant.
