F.14 version of the BIOS and when I look in the BIOS settings (F10) I do not see any advanced options.  I dock my laptop and it is a pain to have to open the lid to press power button.  I was hoping to find a "Power on when AC detected" option,  which I have on a Dell laptop.

Is there such an option?  Is there anyway to display advanced/hidden options in the BIOS?

Thanks

Hi @TRB1975Bulldog,

I understand your HP Pavilion Plus laptop doesn’t show the “Power on when AC detected” option in the BIOS, and you’d like it to turn on automatically when connected to power. Let’s go through a few points to clarify and check possible options.

Check BIOS Version and Menu Layout

The F.14 BIOS version for HP Pavilion Plus laptops does not include an “Advanced” menu or a “Power on AC” option by default.

HP consumer laptops typically have simplified BIOS menus compared to business models (like EliteBook or ProBook), so this feature may not be available.

Confirm Fast Startup and Power Options in Windows

Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.

Disable “Turn on fast startup” to ensure the system responds properly when AC is connected.

Try the “Lid Open Power On” Option (if available)

Some Pavilion Plus models support “Power On with Lid Open.”

In BIOS, under System Configuration or Boot Options, look for “Power On with Lid Open” and enable it.

This will turn on the system as soon as you open the lid, even if the power button isn’t pressed.

Use a Dock with Power Button Passthrough (if applicable)

If your docking station supports power passthrough or has its own power button, ensure it’s connected to the correct USB-C port (usually the one marked with a power symbol).

This allows powering on the laptop without opening the lid.

No Hidden Advanced BIOS Access

HP does not provide a method to unlock hidden or “advanced” BIOS menus on consumer laptops.

Attempting to modify or unlock these can void warranty or cause system instability.

I hope this helps.
