Hello dear Support Forum,
I got me a new HP Pavilion dm1 about half a year ago and now I encountered my first major issue.
At some random times, but mostly when the Netbook is powered on for a longer time, my Keyboard and touchpad suddenly stop to work.
Everything else is just fine, programms or copying stuff still work, but I can't input a thing. the mouse just freezes and even the taskmanager won't work anymore. the only button still working is the power button.
When I press it shortly it even goes into sleep mode and after awaking it again everything works fine again, but not for long...
The more programms I open up or the longer it is powered on, the faster the lock appears.
Could it possibly be a heat problem?
Oh, and I got an OT question on top of it: It is a dual boot netbook with Windows 7 Home and HP Quick Web preinstalled. Is there a possibility to install Pinguy OS (a Linux Distro) instead of Windows 7 without losing warranty or functionality and still have HP Quick Web?
Thank you in advance.
Deweini
System:
HP Pavilion dm1 4100 (sg or eg, I don't remember yet)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and HP Quick Web
4GB Ram
E-450 Apu
no tweaks made

Hello dubberatlast,
You’re having a problem with the mouse and the keyboard not working correctly.
Go into device manager and uninstall the keyboard and the synaptic touch pad. Restart the computer
This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the devices.
Here is a link to get to device manager.
Also go to HP.com and update the BIOS.
Here is a link to the update. You'll need your product number.
You can get the product number by holding down the FN key and pressing the ESC key.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!
Let me know how everything goes.
Have a good day.

Pavillion DM1 3200
Experiencing problems with keyboard - that not all characters activate on screen: ie 1-4 dont’t work but other numbers do, and sometimes none of the keys work in Word, and then they do, etc.
Have updated all software (Windows 7.0) and drivers (latest BIOS, firmware, hard restarts, etc), and followed the driver reinstalls above, but to no avail.
Any other suggestions?
Is this a hardware or software issue?
Thanks
In addition - no damage, spillages, etc on keyboard, it’s just started happening

Have HP acknowledged this problem truly?
It seems beyond software patches, and is a fundemental hardware or OS coding glitch or clash. Can anyone (experts please) confirm?
Is there a fix, or is the laptop now doomed?
It seems that HP has lost a lot of future customers over this.
Cheers

AMAZING
So many people have this issue. The net is full of them, yet no-one has offered a solution here, especially absent no-one from HP.
Called HP, they were not willing to offer goodwill and put me through to tech to discuss if there is a solution, just want to charge for a conversation, even Apple are more flexible than than this. No solution found on here or on the net.
Not impressed with HP so far, followed all remedial advice yet no improvement.
Anyone have a comment to add to this....prefereably a next step beyond binning the machine.
Cheers

yes im having same issue as well, happened on first day of purchase on 2/9/13, i thought just a driver issue...downloaded & installed every driver possible...also reinstalled new OS, no success in finding a remedy, seems to occur approx 30% of the time im running the unit, to make things worse ebay dealer i purchased from is making life difficult by dragging the anchor in response to any query about a solution...sad sad days indeed...
