Hi.. I am using HP dv6-6c03tx. I would like to know if I can use UEFI? If yes then how to update, as I am planning to upgrade to 1 TB SATA SSD to use windows 10.
HP 17FD mother board
HP F.1B Bios( 23.10.2012)
PC3-10700 RAM (8 GB)
Intel Core i5 2450M Processor.
Thanks in advance.

You're very welcome.
Look at your F9 boot options menu.
If your notebook has a UEFI BIOS there will be two lists of bootable devices...UEFI or EFI and Legacy.
If your notebook does not support UEFI, then you will only have one list of bootable devices.
You can try and install W10 in UEFI mode as you described, but if it doesn't work, you will have to create the installer with the MBR partition scheme in Rufus.
You have nothing to lose by trying to install in GPT.
If it doesn't work, you would just have to go back and change the Rufus parameters and re-create the bootable USB flash drive.

Hi:
According to the parts list for your notebook, it comes with the switchable Intel/AMD HD6490 graphics adapters.
There is no W10 driver for that graphics configuration, and the notebook's graphics will not work correctly.
If your notebook has a list of EFI boot sources such as an EFI DVD drive or EFI USB flash drive, you can install W10 in UEFI mode.
If it does not, then your notebook does not support UEFI and no BIOS updates will provide that feature.
In any event, you can install a SSD and run W10 in legacy mode with no problem.
If you want to try out W10, you can do that, but make sure you have a way to go back to W7.
I would make a system image of your current W7 installation prior to updating to W10, so you can easily reinstall W7 in the future. I used the free Macrium Reflect software to do that, under the Backup at Home section.
Along with the system image, make sure you create the bootable DVD or USB rescue drive you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.

You have approximately 30 days to go back to W7 if things don't work right on W10 by reading the info at the link below.

Hi..Thanks for your early reply.
I would like to know what do you mean by " If your notebook has a list of EFI boot sources such as an EFI DVD drive or EFI USB flash drive, you can install W10 in UEFI mode." ?
My laptop having normal DVD drive and USB ports. If I make a bootable USB in UEFI mode (GPT partition) using RUFUS, I can format my new SSD in UEFI mode?
My present OS Win 7 x64 is installed in HDD in MBR partition in BIOS mode.
Thanks in advance.
