My notebook:
HP Pavilion dv6, Model: 2170eo
Product VY115EA#UUW
Motherboard HP 3659, Version 32.25
Chipset: Intel PM55 (IbexPeak-M)
BIOS:
Insyde H2O Setup Utility Rev. 3.5
Bios version: F.1C
SSD drive with MBR partitiontype.
PROBLEM:
How to activate UEFI mode for the Bios? (And also I will change to a larger SSD with GPT partition type).
Running msinfo32 shows that BIOS Mode is "Legacy".
I have the application HWiNFO 64 installed and when running it it says the Bios and the Motherboard is UEFI capable.
In the Bios Setup there is no options to change from Legacy to UEFI, I have searched for info about certain keystrokes that will give the Advanced Options (Hidden options) in the Bios, but none of the tips worked for my model notebook.
I have also tried to install the HP application "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI", but the installation failed. Do I have to first change from Legacy to UEFI before I can install this application?
Anyone have any suggestions, please?

Hi @Arne_H,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Restart the Computer:
- Begin by restarting your laptop. As soon as the computer starts booting, repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup utility. If F10 doesn't work, try using Esc or F2.
Access the BIOS Settings:
- Once in the BIOS setup utility, you should locate the menu section that contains boot settings. This is sometimes labeled as "Boot", "Advanced", or "System Configuration"
Locate Boot Mode (UEFI/Legacy):
- Look for the setting related to boot mode. It may be labeled as “UEFI Boot Mode” or “Boot Options”. If available, it will usually contain choices like “UEFI,” “Legacy,” or a combination of both (“UEFI Hybrid”).
Select UEFI Mode:
- Change settings from “Legacy” BIOS mode to “UEFI.” Switching to UEFI mode may require you to change your SSD from MBR to GPT format, since UEFI typically requires GPT partitions. You should ensure that you've backed up your data before making these changes.
Save and Exit:
- After making the changes, make sure to save them. This typically involves selecting “Save Changes and Exit” from the BIOS menu. Your computer may reboot to apply the changes.
Upgrade SSD and Format to GPT:
- With the new larger SSD installed, you will need to format it using the GPT partition table. You can use Windows installation media to repartition the drive during OS installation.
I hope this helps.

Hi, and thank you for answering,
however, I have still not solved the problem. Please read again what I say about my BIOS Settings. There is no way to switch the BIOS Mode from Legacy to UEFI (Unless there are some hidden menu settings that only appears after certain key strokes).
I have attached some pictures from my BIOS.
Regards, Arne.
