Cheers Mr Robot - sorry fore not replying earlier. I needed a Sunday morning to do the activity again. With the KB article provided by you, I am half a step further. Here is what happens:

  • Found a USB Stick where the tool creates the HP Folder with the files - it did fail on a 64 GB USB Drive and works fine on the now used 32GB file - strange
  • The following files are sitting now in the HP Folder on the USB drive (that is F18 Rev A -the current one is F11)x2bios.GIF

So far so good. Putting the USB drive into the HP Pavillion X2:

  •  Go to Firmware Management - ok
  • Go to Bios Update - ok
  • Select Bios Image to apply - ok
  •  Select HP_Tools USB Drive -ok
  • Click on Hewlett-Packard - ok
  • Click on Bios Update - ok

Here comes the issue- no files listed.  \Hewlett-Packard\Bios\Update is empty according to the X2 menue. The only posibility is to go up again into the folder above. Nothign to select as described in teh KB article. Pls let me know if you need a picture from that final step.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks a ton !

Otter

I tried to copy the files from the HP folder into the root of the USB drive - same issue.

Ok guys - found something. The Bios Update files are not sitting in the Bios Update Folder- but in the Bios\current folder - that makes not really sense to me - I want to do a Bios Update. However, BIOS Update went well.

  • add. manual Reboot after flashing the Bios
  • Bios Version Check. F18 ?  Ok
  • Secure Boot  still disabled ? Ok
  • Legacy Boot menue option now available ?  FAIL (grrrr !) I.o.W. the whole exercise did not help

Ok, here we go:

  •  Pavillion x2 with the F18 Bios does not need the  [everywhere] described Enable Legacy Support Option any longer
  •  Press F9 and select the USB drive to boot from (it does NOT work if you only change the boot order in the BIOS, you need to do that step manual in the F9 menue

Win 10 starts now from the USB drive - but still some issues with the internal HDD partitions - will post update soon

I ran I to the same problem but after days of fighting to install windows through USB I finally got it. The bios on my x2 detachable 10-n013dx was 32 bit. I created an install USB drive using the windows media creation tool and selecting the 32 bit version, this did the trick. Using the 64 bit version always resulted in the drive failed message  I also has an issue selecting a partition to install it on. I used the advanced option in the troubleshoot section and followed these directions to select, clean and format the partition : [edit] Restarting the install USB and trying it again let me install with no issues.
