HP Pavilion x360 14m-dw1023dx
Microsoft Windows 11

Need help here! HP Pavilion x360 14m-dw1023dx having corrupt BIOS issue. I've tried the BIOS drivers listed here , but no luck. I've also tried to boot it on USB by removing the SSD. Still no luck. I'm out of ideas here. It just loops and loops in the BIOS is corrupted and will recover, but it doesn't fix itself nor it won't recognize the BIOS in the USB. Please help!

Hi @ernestriderx,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion x360 14. Here are some steps you can follow to try and recover the BIOS.

Use the HP BIOS Recovery Tool

HP has a built-in BIOS recovery tool that you can access even if the BIOS is corrupted. Follow these steps:

Create a BIOS Recovery USB drive:

  • Download the latest BIOS update for your specific HP Pavilion x360 14 model from the HP Support website.
  • Use another working computer to create a BIOS recovery USB drive. The BIOS update file downloaded from the HP website will usually include instructions on how to create the recovery drive.

Initiate BIOS recovery:

  • Insert the BIOS recovery USB drive into the USB port of your HP Pavilion x360 14.
  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press and hold the Windows key and the B key together, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but continue holding the Windows and B keys until you hear beeping sounds or see the BIOS update screen.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the BIOS recovery.

Reset CMOS Battery

Sometimes, resetting the CMOS battery can help resolve BIOS issues. Here's how to do it:

  1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect all cables.
  2. Remove the back cover:
    • Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the back cover in place.
    • Carefully remove the back cover to expose the internal components.
  3. Locate the CMOS battery:
    • It's usually a small round battery similar to a watch battery.
  4. Remove the CMOS battery:
    • Carefully remove the battery from its socket.
  5. Wait for a few minutes:
    • Leave the battery out for about 5-10 minutes to ensure the CMOS memory is cleared.
  6. Reinstall the CMOS battery and reassemble the laptop:
    • Place the battery back into its socket and reattach the back cover.
    • Reconnect all cables and power on the laptop to see if the issue is resolved.

Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, a hard reset can clear any residual power and refresh the hardware settings:

  1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect all external devices.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter and try to power on the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
