HP Pavilion x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ek0000 (54B26AV)

My laptop will randomly turn off in the middle of use. When I press the power button to turn back on, the light will stay on for about 5 seconds before turning off and then the screen will not turn on. Then sometimes the next day/hours later it will turn on but I can't work out why. Sometimes it turns on after I charge it, sometimes it doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Isabella5678,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Perform a Hard Reset:

  1. Step 1: Turn off the laptop.
  2. Step 2: Disconnect all external devices (e.g., USB drives, printers) and remove the power adapter.
  3. Step 3: Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.
  4. Step 4: Reconnect the power adapter, but do not connect any external devices.
  5. Step 5: Try turning on the laptop again.

2. Check Power Adapter and Charging Port:

  1. Step 1: Verify that the power adapter is working by checking if the charging light on the laptop is on when connected.
  2. Step 2: If you have access to another compatible power adapter, try using it to rule out issues with your original adapter.

3. Perform BIOS Reset:

  1. Step 1: Turn off the computer and connect the AC adapter.
  2. Step 2: Press and hold the Windows + B keys together while pressing the Power button for 2-3 seconds, then release the Power button but continue holding the Windows + B keys until you hear beeping or see something on the screen.
  3. Step 3: The BIOS will try to recover; follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Check for Overheating:

  1. Step 1: Check that the laptop’s cooling vents are not blocked and are free of dust.
  2. Step 2: Use compressed air to clean out any dust from the vents.

5. Inspect Battery Health:

  1. Step 1: Turn off the laptop and remove the battery (if removable).
  2. Step 2: With the battery removed, connect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop.
  3. Step 3: If the laptop turns on, the issue might be with the battery.

6. Run HP Diagnostic Tools:

  1. Step 1: Turn off the laptop.
  2. Step 2: Press the power button and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
  3. Step 3: Press F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool.
  4. Step 4: Run a full system diagnostic.

I hope this helps.
