HP Spectre X360 13-4003dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My laptop will not charge, even with new batteries installed. I removed and re-installed the battery drivers several times.  I see the amber light, but windows say the battery is discharging even when plugged into the charger.  Finally I took a closer look and noticed the hole burned thought the "Replace with HP spare" tag.  Removing the tag exposed a burned capacitor.  So it appears I have a burned out motherboard.

This laptop is approximately 2 years old.  I googled the cost of purchasing a new motherboard and was shocked at the cost, over $500.  This laptop was over $1000 when new.   I understand the warrenty has expired, but was hoping HP would help with the cost of getting this repaired.   Looking at all the post I've seen on this problem, it appears to be a known issue with these laptops.

Here are several photo's  took:

Sorry to hear about your Spectre. In the past HP has offered help with repairs to some but I'm not sure they can even still get motherboards for that age Spectre. You "might" be offered a credit toward cost of a new laptop-may get nothing. I have no idea other than seeing other owner's posts.

A couple members have used this service and reported good results. If he doesn't have your specific model listed he says to contact and he will create a listing. Just click on any of the Spectre pages and then use "Contact Seller" is how, I assume, that works.

Good luck with your Spectre!

I have the same problem - motherboard died so I called tech cupport. Turns out that HP does not even support this model any moer. VERY dissapointing.

I can certainly sympatize with that feeling . However, technology advances in leaps and bounds. A machine that is bleeding edge today is mediocre or obsolete in a few years. Computer companies do not continue to stock parts-probably can't even source parts- for obsolete machines.

If you are in the US you might look into the repair service I posted above. The originator of this thread along with several others on the forum have had good results with it.

@CherylG obviously. Then, there is a business model where a firm supports is customers. The two are not mutually exclusive. based on my own experience, the experience of others who have posted, and your response, it would be wise of me to never purchase another HP computer because, that mix of novelty and support, it is more important for me to have support.
