Microsoft Windows 11

Shut down the laptop in the evening, turned off power (outlet) after being on charger/power all day.

Next morning, not powering up. LED blinking slowly.

ONE time, the startup light came on for a second.

Removed battery. Held power button for 15 seconds. Several times. Plugged battery back in, same (slow blinking orange LED).

Have had 'strange' boot up behavior before, sometimes needing to go into boot mode and restart.

Ordered new battery (even so current one is already a replacement, and not that old).

Intalled, working fine now.

@vtraudt, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae000 is not powering up and you're seeing a slow blinking orange LED, even after trying a few troubleshooting steps. Let's work through this together.

Check the Power Adapter and Port

  • Ensure the AC adapter is working. Try using a different compatible HP charger if available.
  • Inspect the charging port for dust or damage.

Perform a Hard Reset (again, with AC only)

Sometimes repeating this with only AC power helps:

  1. Disconnect all peripherals.
  2. Remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Unplug the AC adapter.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  5. Plug in the AC adapter only (leave battery out if removable).
  6. Try powering on.

Check the LED Blink Pattern

  • A slow blinking amber/orange light typically indicates a battery charging issue or battery failure.
  • If the battery is not charging or is faulty, the system may not boot.

Use HP Hardware Diagnostics (if accessible)

If you can get the laptop to power on briefly:

  • Tap Esc repeatedly at startup, then press F2 to enter diagnostics.
  • Run the Battery Test and System Test.

Try BIOS Recovery

If the system is not posting:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. Release all keys. If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the prompts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Also: with old battery removed (after hard reset), computer boots and runs fine just on AC, which also confirmed it must be the battery causing the issue.
