Yesterday I was changing some settings in my iDrive backup interface when the computer froze – no mouse movement, not able to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete, etc. I waited about 20 minutes before pressing the power button for a hard shutdown.
After a few minutes, I started the computer but got nothing but a black screen. The keyboard backlights lit, but nothing else happened. After a short while the black screen appeared with:
- Boot Device Not Found
- Please Install an operating system on your hard disk
- Hard disk - (3F0)
- F2 System Diagnostics
Most of the tests passed with the exception of
- Storage Test:
- No Storage Installed
- Hard Drive Check:
- Quick Check Passed
- Long DST NOT AVAILABLE
I was able to boot into a recovery USB but did not want to restore back to factory if there were other options I could try. I also tried removing the internal battery, holding the power down 30 seconds but after reconnecting the battery, no joy.
Now when I try to start, the keyboard backlights no longer come on and it takes a lot longer for the diagnostic screen to appear.
I would really appreciate any advice since this is my workhorse machine and I need it back desperately.
