HP Spectre 15-bl000 x360 Convertible PC
Linux

Hello,

Yesterday I was watching a movie on my pc, while running Ubuntu 16.04 from external SSD via USB 3.0.

I got a system notification telling me that the Pc was going to be put in Suspension mode because of inactivity, so I started to give inputs. The computer freezed, therefore I held the power button in order to turn it off.

Since then, the computer won't restart. The power button blue LED keeps blinking (Pattern is: 3 longer flashes on, 1 shorter flash and then it repeats). I tried to push the power button for 15 seconds or more several times, but nothing changes.

Also: connecting it to the power supply via USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 doesn't work: the red LED stays off.

I am sure there is still lots of battery charge left and the chargin cable works.

What shall I do?

EDIT: I also have Windows 10 on the internal SSD so it's a dual boot and on Ubuntu I was running the NVIDIA proprietary Drivers because I needed them for my work.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Spectre 15-bl000 x360 Convertible laptop and it no longer boots up. I read that the power button LED blinks (3 long blinks and 1 short). Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the external SSD from the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the issue persists then let us perform a BIOS rollback. The steps mentioned in "Step 1: Recover the BIOS using a key press combination" from this HP document will help.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. All the best! 🙂
